NFL Free Agency kicked off earlier this month on March 9, and teams around the league did not waste time signing their new players. As teams look to solidify their place at the top of the league, these signings will be talked about over the next few months headed into the pre-season.
The top free agents this offseason consisted of Alec Pierce (re-signed with the Indianapolis Colts), Trey Hendrickson (signed with the Baltimore Ravens), Tyler Linderbaum (signed with the Las Vegas Raiders), Wan’Dale Robinson (signed with the Tennessee Titans), Malik Willis (signed with the Miami Dolphins), and more. The majority of the top targets in free agency wasted no time making their decision. Within the first 30 minutes of the signing window opening, the Indianapolis Colts were quick to re-sign one of their top receivers in Alec Pierce, signing him to a 4-year, $114M deal, making him the highest paid wide receiver in this free agency.
While some teams like the Tennessee Titans and the Carolina Panthers make the most moves during free agency, the Jacksonville Jaguars have only made two signings up to this point. The Tennessee Titans have made a total of 20 signings up to this point, being atop the league in signing free agents. At the beginning of free agency, the Titans had the second most cap space in the league with nearly $100M to spend. The Titans did not waste time going after some of the top targets either. The Titans signed wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson to a 4-year, $70M deal. Shortly after, the Titans took the best defensive tackle off the board in John Franklin-Meyers from the Denver Broncos. Signing him to a 3-year, $63M deal. The Titans also signed the following players: CB Alontae Taylor, CB Cordale Flott, TE Daniel Bellinger, QB Mitchell Trubisky, LB Jake Martin, DT Jordan Elliot, CB Joshua Williams, C Austin Schlottmann, P Tommy Townsend, S Tony Adams, K Joey Slye, LS Morgan Cox, RB Julius Chestnut, TE Kylen Granson, DE Malik Herring, S Jerrick Reed, OT Austin Deculus, and LB Mohamoud Diabate. It is no secret that the Tennessee Titans are looking to return to the playoffs sooner than later from these moves during this offseason.
Being just a few weeks away from the NFL Draft, teams are looking to fill roster holes and evaluate their biggest needs. Even though the majority of the top targets during this free agency window have already made their choice on what team they wanted to join, there are plenty of star players left looking for a new team like QB Kirk Cousins, WR Tyreek Hill, WR Stefon Diggs, and more! With names of this caliber still available, the free agency frenzy is far from finished.
